No Matariki Tax
Matariki will be a $448 million tax on business. Businesses will have to pay half a billion to workers for a new public holiday.
Jacinda Ardern and Labour are doing what’s popular, not what’s responsible.
Businesses are already fragile from Covid-19. Add to that massive hikes to the minimum wage, extended paid parental leave, domestic violence leave, and a $1 billion bill for extending sick leave, and it’s clear Labour is being reckless with the country’s ability to pay its way.
New Zealanders should be able to celebrate Matariki, but not at the cost of half a billion dollars. ACT believes the Government needs to identify another holiday to be removed from the calendar. It’s a shame, but as a nation we simply can’t afford to add more holidays.
We have employers’ backs. We’ll fight on their behalf for sensible economic policies so they can grow and employ more New Zealanders.
